Chocolate Salon
Went to a Chocolate Salon with some friends today. It goes under the good food festival column in my book. Every single vendor's booth had samples and most were very fancy and tasty chocolates, including several organic and fair trade ones. Had to drink lots of water and took a couple of breaks to let my taste buds recover, but I think I tried something from pretty much all the booths and even started my holiday gift shopping!
Chocolate tasting is a fabulous way to spend a Sunday. I'm set for the week!

SIGG debacle
I just read an article about older SIGG bottles having a lining that contains BPA. I was one of the suckers who bought a couple of SIGG bottles when the paranoia about BPA leaching from plastic bottles was around and now it turns out that the SIGG bottles I bought had BPA in them too, they just kept mum about it.
Since I bought my bottles at REI, I went back and was able to exchange my old SIGG bottles for newer ones with a lining that SIGG claims does not have BPA. You can also mail your old bottles to SIGG to get new ones by following these instructions. They're calling it an exchange program, not a recall, because they claim their old liners didn't leach BPA even though they contained BPA.
To see if you have the old or new liner, look inside your bottles and compare with this picture.
At this point, though, do I even trust SIGG's claim that their new liner is safe or eco-friendly? Why do the bottles even need liners anyway? I've seen other metal bottles that don't have liners.

Strange symmetry in Star Trek movies
I loved the new Star Trek movie so much I watched it twice the first weekend it was out. The new movie also made me curious about the old Star Trek movies, which I watched so long ago that I'd forgotten what they were about. I've watched I through IV and I think I'll stop there.
The odd thing I noticed was that in Star Trek I, a character was sort of left behind at the end, and in Star Trek IV, a character was picked up by the crew and brought along with them. It turns out that the actor who played the character left behind in the first movie played the dad in Seventh Heaven (not that I watched that show, I just remember the previews for it on TV). And the actress who played the character who was picked up by the crew in Star Trek IV went on to play the mom in Seventh Heaven. I thought it was a curious coincidence.
